Red Wine and Chocolate Cupcakes

Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to display your love for wine, chocolate and of course your significant other. Theres no better way to show your love this upcoming Valentine’s Day then by making these Red Wine and Chocolate cupcakes. The cupcake and frosting have red wine in them to capture the spirit of the day and help set the mood for your date night. They’re fun to make by scratch and I made a few milk chocolate hearts to place on top as decoration. Either way have a great Valentine’s Day and make sure that whether you have a significant other or not, your day can still be filled with wine and chocolate. img_1922




cupcake (makes 20-24)

  •  cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups dry red wine


  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup dry red wine




  1. Beat butter and sugar until creamy
  2. Add eggs and vanilla until well incorporated
  3. In a separate bowl combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt
  4. Slowly fold flour mixture and wine into butter mixture until thoroughly mixed
  5. Separate into cupcake tins and bake for 15-17 minutes until toothpick comes out clean img_1912
  6. Let cupcakes cool and start frosting by mixing butter and powdered sugar until fairly fluffy
  7. Add wine and vanilla until frosting has a whipped consistency
  8. Frost cooled cupcakes and decorate img_1919
