Acai Bowls-The World’s Prettiest Snack

It looks like a rainbow in a bowl. With all of the beautiful fruit available during summer, I decided to make a snack that incorporated a wide variety of them. On Tuesday, I stopped by the local street fair that happens weekly on Main Street in Huntington Beach and stocked up on all of my favorites. It’s hard to avoid eating them on the drive home! But with all of the delicious fruit on my counter, I put together these fruit bowls that are very high in Vitamin C and antioxidants. Acai is a fruits that contains some of the most antioxidants compared to other fruits, helping to protect your cells against free radicals. In addition to these  benefits, acai bowls are a delicious snack that are low in fat and calories. Plus, I top them with my homemade granola recipe, giving them an extra boost and protein. They’re perfect for breakfast, post-workout, or even a lunch snack. With these bowls, summer days just got cooler and a whole lot tastier!



Classic acai bowl base ingredients:

(makes about two-three bowls)

  • 2 four ounce packets of frozen acai (you can substitute this for pitaya, its just as tasty and healthy but with a vibrant magenta color)
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of blueberries
  • 1/2 of a peach
  • 1/4 cup raspberries
  • 1/4 cup cherries
  • 1/3 cup non fat almond milk


  • blend together the fruit, acai, and milk until the mixture has a consistent texture (milk can be reduced if the mixture is too runny)
  •  place 1/4 cup of granola at the bottom of a bowl
  • pour mixture over granola
  • place fresh fruits as well as additional granola on top

Dark Sunrise Berry Bowl


  • for this bowl, I added some black berries to the base for a tart taste
  • sprinkling coconut in the corner helps sweeten but the tart bowl
    (go for unsweetened coconut shreds if possible, sweetened shreds add a lot of unwanted sugars)
  • top with extra blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, mango, and kiwi


Mango Madness Bowl


  • Incorporating mango in the base mixture makes the bowl see and smooth
  • the toppings include granola, kiwi, blueberries, banana, mango, pineapple and blueberries (it was hard to leave any out!)
  • it has a very sweet and tangy taste that pairs perfectly with the toppings, leave out the blackberries if you dislike tart flavor

  • this one has the kitchen sink! The toppings include kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, mango, granola, unsweetened coconut shreds, and banana
  • the base is the classic base because the tops add all the extra flavor
  • has a very tropical and tangy taste perfect for a summer day
